Kumi describes B. Howard: “He is so shy, pure, and so gentle. I thougt he must have  grown up in a good home and good family.

On how they met, Kumi states, “He was performing at Billboard Live in Tokyo (and Osaka) so I went backstage to say “Hi.” I don’t know why…but he was very happy to meet me, and then he said, “I’ll write for you – let’s do something.” After a week, he sent me “3″ DEMOS!!!  After listening to them, I told him I think I wanna do a “Duet” so I started writing lyrics to one of them.  He agreed on the direction and we started from there!

Kumi adds: He is a real busy artist but he adjusted his schedule and he appeared in the music video too!! He is playing an active part as a producer so he knows how to get the most out of the performances and he also acts according to my individuality.  Because we understood each other, we were able to make a “PV” that shared the same vision.

Asked about the lyrics that she wrote, Kumi started laughing and said “B. Howard had an affair with another girl.” The message of the music video for “Passing By” is that we believe Love to be eternal but somehow we lost it.”  She adds, “In the video, we went to the places that held fond memories for us. It’s an image that dances alone and indulges to the lost desire we share.”

“I am the heroine of this story who thought that he is forever my soul mate. But for some reason, I believed he has had an affair and all is lost. I insist that he is cheating but his actions show he did not. Maybe I was over exaggerating but I believe they have power to overcome those troubles if they have true love. I wanted him to tell the truth to me even if that means we were to break up … it’s very sad story.”

Artist to Watch: Producer, Writer, Singer B. Howard at The Comet

Last month, B. Howard made his stateside performance debut at The Roots annual Grammy Jam. By special invitation of the super group, Howard entertained the “Who’s Who” of the Entertainment World. Howard explains, “What better way to debut back home than having The Roots backing me on stage while my mentors and best friends in the industry were in the audience supporting.”

One such mentor, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Chaka Kahn, actually escorted the usually private artist down the red carpet. Kahn boasted to the national media, “B. Howard, name it, he can do it! Artistically, musically, he’s just an amazing artist.” Questlove, a key member of The Roots, detailed why he lent his drumming skills to a soon to be released B. Howard single, “Dance Floor,” and how a relatively unknown artist was asked to share this exclusive stage reserved for the industry’s elite, “He’s just an extraordinary talent. It’s almost as if an unspoken spirit has blessed him. I consider it an honor to have worked with this man.”

However, the homecoming will be short lived. The immediate future for B. Howard includes international tour dates in China, India, Korea, Kazakhstan, and Japan while a full-blown domestic launch is in the works. B. (LOS ANGELES – July 5, 2010) – As the World’s attention turns to South Africa for the World Cup, one song from the LISTEN UP! – The Official World Cup Album, strikes a deep cord with the native Africans and that’s “KE NAKO.” Originally recorded and performed by South African teacher turned artist J pre at Nelson Mandela’s historical Grande Parade Rally in 1990, the song needed a facelift in order to be relevant to a global audience.

J pre sought out R&B / Pop producer B. Howard (Ne-Yo, Missy Elliot, Ginuwine) to bring a contemporary sound that would attract contributions from other International artists. B. Howard reminisces when he got the call, “What an honor yet what pressure. I have worked with great artists before but this was Mr. Mandela’s song. The one that made him dance. We needed to make an anthem that the stadiums would embrace as well as make Mr. Mandela proud. ”

And that’s just what was delivered. Four minutes and four seconds of unity and adulation. The revamped “KE NAKO” drew the attention of multi-Grammy Award Winning Wylcef Jean and 5-Time Grammy Nominee Jazmine Sullivan. As LISTEN UP! is a charity record, B. Howard is donating all of his record and producer royalties to Alicia Key’s “Keep a Child Alive” organization. B. explains, “My team tried very hard to get Alicia on “Ke Nako” but scheduling didn’t sync up. However in doing so, I was introduced to her great work in Africa through her “Keep A Child Alive” charity so it is an honor for me to help support this worthy cause.”

Howard has seamlessly moved from behind the mixing console to the microphone and from all indications – the sky is the limit. The fifteen minute set showed Howard’s inherit ability to get the crowd moving with the infectious “Dance Floor,” the intimate ballad “Crush” – which he transitioned smoothly to the piano for, and finally closing with an upbeat sexy performance of the first single “Super Model.”

The next day, the oft docile and critical Japanese press heralded the thirteen song album “… An Instant Classic” while music retail Giant HMV coined him the “Prince of Pop.”
